Google Offers NGOs Free Access to Child Porn-Fighting AI

Google has developed new ammunition in the fight against child porn.

The visitor's new "cutting-edge artificial intelligence" technology can assistance human being reviewers more than speedily identify and remove child sexual abuse material (CSAM) from the web, information technology says. Google is offering the technology free of accuse to non-governmental organizations and other companies working to stop the spread of this material online.

"By using deep neural networks for image processing, we can now assist reviewers sorting through many images by prioritizing the most likely CSAM content for review," Google Engineering Lead Nikola Todorovic and Product Managing director Abhi Chaudhuri wrote in a blog post. "Quick identification of new images means that children who are being sexually driveling today are much more than likely to be identified and protected from further abuse."

While existing tools identify CSAM by matching information technology against hashes of known content, Google's new AI tin can place illegal fabric that hasn't been flagged in the past.

"We've seen firsthand that this system can help a reviewer observe and take action on 700 percent more CSAM content over the same time period," Todorovic and Chaudhuri wrote.

In a statement, Cyberspace Watch Foundation CEO Susie Hargreaves OBE said this new engineering science will ultimately "brand the net a safer place for both survivors and users."

"We, and in particular our expert analysts, are excited about the development of an bogus intelligence tool which could assist our human experts review material to an even greater calibration and go along upwards with offenders, by targeting imagery that hasn't previously been marked as illegal material," Hargreaves said.

The technology is at present available via Google's Content Safety API toolkit. Organizations interested in using the toolkit can request access via this class.
